Students
Students studying in the Department of Adult and Community Education come from a wide range of background in the world of the education and development of adults, including work with marginal groups, VECs, post-Leaving Certificate work, community education, and training. They participate in the programmes in order to critically reflect on their work, to theorise their experiences and to develop their practice.
Our aims include the professional development and training of adult educators mainly through postgraduate academic programmes. Equally important and with a nationwide profile the Department aims to serve the needs of the economy, state and civil society for Lifelong Learning through an undergraduate Continuing Education Programme. This brings the University to a wide number of people in towns and villages across the country who have a wide range of needs for continuing professional development. In addition, we aim to contribute to the development of individuals and communities and work with and support communities in their community education and development activities. Finally, we aim to be involved in research, evaluation, consultancy and publications that provide scholarly leadership both to the University and to the field of Adult and Community Education.
