Aims of The Department of Adult and Community Education

The department has the following aims:

  • The professional development of adult educators through full-time and part-time postgraduate academic programmes;
  • Serving the needs of the society, state and economy through part-time courses both on campus and off campus;
  • Supporting community education and development activities through research and consultancy.

The department is committed to taking actions and supporting actions that materially change the conditions in which people live, especially those who are disadvantaged and on the margins. It emphasises the importance of making organisations and systems more democratic, fair and socially cohesive.

The department is at once an integral part of the University and inextricably linked to the community. This means that it can serve both the university and the community through its innovative teaching and research activities.
